He's here! He's here! Our big handsome boy has finally arrived!
Shirley and Stan drove him down from Canada this morning and we're SO excited to have him here with us!
His trip through Customs was pretty funny, they tell us. Apparently he was so eager to become a US citizen that he caused quite a ruckus in the trailer, so that when it was time for him to be inspected by the agent, the poor man was quite intimidated by the whole situation. Guinny was bobbing around so much in the back that their clearance south was granted almost immediately with no hassle. Way to go, Big G!
After he arrived at his new home he cruised around nervously for a few minutes. We put him in his stall for a spot of lunch and he calmed down a little. While Erin gave Shirley and Stan a tour of the place Big G chilled out and got to know his neighbors.
Since manly men are comfortable in pink, Guinness donned a lovely pink and lavender new blanket. Stan laughs, but he does look rather dashing in it! And pink is the new anti-bullying color, so he's trying to make a statement in his new joint.
Eventually it was time for Shirley and Stan to head home and all 8 of our eyeballs welled up (Shanna was stuck in a meeting at work or she'd likely have cried too). Guinny's clearly been the light of Shirley and Stan's life for the 5 years he's been with them, and it was heartbreaking to part with him. He's clearly won the New Moms Lottery and his life with us will be awesome. But it's bittersweet for Shirley and Stan who've so loved our handsome fella.
Erin and Guinny walked up to the road to see them off, and Stan kidded, "We'll probably be back in 5 minutes!" As they drove off, Big G got upset and started to prance around. But as they got to the end of the road, they turned around and headed back our way! Erin's first thought was, "Oh no, they've changed their minds!" But not to worry -- they'd only forgotten to give us the important documents. Whew!
But after they left the second time poor Guinness really got upset. Erin walked him back to his stall (more like Guinness danced in circles around her) and loved on him for awhile. He eventually calmed down, had a bit of lunch and mellowed out. While he was snacking, Erin ran up the street to grab a bit of her own lunch to take back and sit in Guinny's stall so they could eat together.
Her meetings finally over, Shanna showed up shortly thereafter to welcome her new handsome boy to town. And he was thrilled to see her! He loves to have his muzzle smooched and breathed on gently. After the requisite round of kisses we took him out for another stroll around the property and some green grass. Although not quite as nervous as before he was still a little keyed up outside and began what Shanna called "impulse grazing". When he'd had his fill we put him in the small lunging arena for a chance to stretch his legs after such a long trip. And he was game to run around getting all his ya-yas out! It's clear that he delights in himself and his body -- and despite the small real estate Big G was able to amaze us with his movement and balance! He's absolutely gorgeous, and we're not the least bit biased, now, are we?
All 4 legs stretched he was a gentleman heading back to his stall. We tried on his new cooler and although he made supremely ugly faces while he was getting dressed, he was mostly good about the fashion show. A few young girls with their ponies walked by and commented on Guinness' beauty.
It has been a busy day with our household move in progress, but Big G's arrival is perfectly timed. We're incredibly thankful for having found him and for Stan and Shirley having loved him so much. The "other Erin" will hopefully stop by the barn on her way north this month for a visit -- it's clear Guinness misses her.
We look forward to all the fun times to come in our lives together -- stay tuned for more of our adventures with Guinness the Great!
